Our Specialty Coffee and Cocoa Trip is perfect for people who want to share a deeply immersed sensory experience with us in the world of coffee and cocoa in the heart of the Peruvian jungle. The cultivation of coffee and cocoa is a culture, a lifestyle and a way of providing food and support to families. We want to plant a seed in you who travel the world to carry the message of Embrace the Ethical Taste.
PROGRAM
Day 1 ARRIVAL IN LIMA
Pick up at the Jorge Chávez International Airport and transport to the lodging in the historic center of Lima.
DAY 2 HISTORIC CENTER OF LIMA
We will take the city tour through the Historic Center of Lima, to appreciate the cultural, architectural, historical and gastronomic tourist attractions. You will have access to services such as currency exchange and activation of local cell phones. Visit to very nice local specialty coffee bars and cocoa museum.
In the afternoon we will take the bus bound for Oxapampa.
DAY 3 PERMACULTURE APPLIED TO SPECIALTY COFFEE CULTIVATION
In the morning we will show you the city of Oxapampa and the main services. In the afternoon we will visit the coffee plantations of Marcial and Eduardo in Taschopen, an indegenous village of the Yanesha people. They will tell us how permaculture is applied not only in coffee productions, but also to create habitat for biodiversity while generating extra income for their families.
DAY 4 SELECTIVE HARVEST OF SPECIALTY COFFEE IN THE CLOUD FOREST
Today we will visit the Velita family in Santa Teresa. The tour begins with an ancient Andean ceremony to pay respect to Pachamama. Then we will work with the host to selectively harvest coffee. A country lunch is served at a coffee plantation in the indigenous community.
DAY 5 THE PERGAMINO COFFEE PROCESS
Today we visit the Cipizu area of Taschopen, where we will learn the second stage in coffee processing, known as pulping with the farmers producer of our lots Cipizu and Pachamama. A typical Yanesha lunch is shared with the women coffee growers of our project. In a special dinner prepared by our Yanesha brothers, you can observe their traditional rituals, try their typical food, and sing and dance around a campfire.
DAY 6 VARIETIES OF COFFEE PLANTS AND SPECIALTY COFFEE PROCESSES
Today we visit the Inga family farm in the Huancabamba Valley, a district of Oxapampa recognized for producing the best granadilla, rocoto and coffee. You will hear the tradition of a coffee-growing family, and tour their coffee plantation and specialty coffee processes, in particula natural process.
DAY 7 THE WORLD OF COCOA AT FINCA PUERTO LUZ
Our hosts at Puerto Luz will tell us the history of the cocoa farm, the varieties of cacao, and the principles of biodynamics applied to cocoa production. We will participate in the cacao harvest and cacao fruit tasting. We will show you the post-harvest process such as fermentation and drying of cocoa beans. A forest walk will take you to a beautiful waterfall where you can bath in its water.
DAY 8 COCOA ROASTING, DRYING AND CACAO MYSTIC CEREMONY
In the morning we will participate in the collection, selection of the cocoa from the solar dryer, and finally the roasting and grinding process. In the afternoon, a therapeutic ceremony in connection with the Spirit of Cocoa takes you on a journey into your inner being to enhance emotionals and self-awareness.
DAY 9 YANACHAGA CHEMILLEN NATIONAL PARK
In the Yanachaga National Park Chemillen we will learn about the local flora and fauna. Along the 4-hour walk on nature trails, we can observe the diversity of wildlife and vegetation typical of the Could Forest Ecosystem. After crossing a few bridges, we arrive at a lovely waterfall where you can relax and enjoy the fresh air.
DAY 10 VILLA RICA COFFEE TASTING AND VISITING THE FOREST AND LAGOON
Today we visit the town of Villa Rica, famous coffee town, where you will learn coffee tasting and grading in the main laboratory of our local Q-grader. In the afternoon we visit the El Oconal lagoon, a beautiful habitat for birds and wildlife in the area. A boat will take us on the lagoon to enjoy the surrounding scenery.
DAY 11 COFFEE METHODS AND TASTING
Today, as part of the local experience, we will visit cafes in the area where we will be able to appreciate the various methods of coffee extraction of local coffees. After lunch you will have time to do some shopping and get ready for departure for Lima.
