Three words (or even more) to describe EspressoAcademy?
Friendly, international and fun: I loved the staff at Espresso Academy, everyone is so friendly, open-minded and welcoming. The teachers are great coffee experts and it was fascinating to listen to them. They also know how to share their knowledge and capture attention with lots of practice and/or anecdotes.
The school is very international, and I think that’s a great strength. I’ve had the opportunity to meet extraordinary people with different experiences, cultures and knowledge of coffee, which is very enriching. What’s more, the international network with the WhatsApp group is very clever and useful when I’m travelling, but also on a professional level.
All in all, I had a great and fun week. I was there to learn, but also to have fun. Everyone is in the same frame of mind, which makes it a lot of fun.
What did you learn in EspressoAcademy was important for your coffee career?
Everything there is to know! I didn’t know much about coffee before the Espresso Academy, but I was simply interested in the subject. From roasting to tasting coffee, from brewing techniques to green coffee, everything was new to me. It helped me to understand the world of coffee as a whole (from the plantation to the cup), and above all it made me more curious and interested in diving deeper into this world.
Are you working in a coffee business? Where can we find you? You can describe us your Coffee Shop?
I work in a specialist coffee shop in the centre of Lucerne, Switzerland. The café is called Café Tacuba; Tacuba is the town where the owner grew up, in El Salvador. The green coffee comes exclusively from that country, from his family’s farm. The coffee is then roasted here in Lucerne.
The café is very comfortable and friendly, perfect for a quick coffee with friends, a weekend brunch and a coworking space. The company’s aim is to ‘educate’ the Swiss further, by getting them to try new coffees. Perfect for coffee lovers!
What are your future projects?
I’m not sure yet, but eventually it would be great to have my own coffee shop. Now I want to train as a barista, learn more about coffee and roasting, and then see!
Espresso or Filter coffee?
I love both!
Sugar or not?
No sugar!
Sit in or Take Away?
Sit in! For me, a perfect coffee shop is also a friendly place where I feel at home. When I want my coffee, I want to have the time to enjoy it in the café.
Favorite tool?
No specific tools… I like to experiment and try out all sorts of coffee machines, coffee grinders, latte art tools, etc.
