The Barista Skills SCAE module of the old SCAE Diploma System has been completely renewed and has also changed its name. We try to find here out what is required to pass the Barista Skills Foundation SCA exam and what this Barista certification recognized all over the world consist of.
The Barista Skills Foundation certification is part of the new training system created by the Specialty Coffee Association, the Coffee Skills Program. A credit training system that, once you have reached 100 credits, allows you to have the Coffee Diploma SCA
The Barista Skills Foundation module, like all the Foundation levels of the other modules, allows you to obtain 5 training credits and is designed to certify the basic skills of the Barista such as the calibration of the coffee grinder, the correct preparation of an espresso and a cappuccino. To obtain this certification no previous experience as a barista is required and our Advanced Barista Course is structured on the Barista Skills Foundation SCA certification curriculum.
In order to pass the Barista Skills Foundation certification exam, the barista will have to pass a practical test and a written exam containing questions that reflect various topics that are dealt with during our Advanced Barista Course starting from the difference between the different species of Coffee, the difference between Arabica and Robusta and the importance of coffee preservation after the roasting.
During the Barista Skills Foundation SCA course, fundamental topics of Barista job are discussed , such as working space management and optimization of the coffee drinks preparation routine.
Understand how to find the correct grind setting is a topic that is required both in the theoretical and practical examination of the Barista Skills Foundation SCA module, such as the correct dosing and tamping of the ground coffee in the filter.
In the practical part of the Barista Skills Foundation SCA exam, the preparation of an espresso is required and the barista must recognize and describe if the extraction is correct, over-extracted or under-extracted.
In our Advanced Barista Course we dedicate a lot of time to the milk frothing technique and to the preparation of the classic cappuccino that is part of the Barista Skills Foundation certification exam. To pass the Barista Skills Foundation exam the student must obtain a correct texture of milk and a temperature between 55 ° and 65 °.
The Barista Skills Foundation certification also includes a training part dedicated to the “Customer service” and the role of the professional barista inside a coffee shop without forgetting one of the most important and often forgotten topics such as the fundamental cleaning of the equipment.
