Italian Barista Method, we have a new Nepalese record for our Barista Time Trial Competition.
6 July 2018One Week Coffee Route, october 2018!
25 October 2018We officially have a new Espresso Academy Partner in Nepal!
Lately we’ve been working hard on developing a certification system that aims to create professional baristas that are able to work on a level that is up to italian standard and Speed!
We are now starting to select in different countries the schools where we want to certify trainers so that they can be able to organize these barista courses and certifications.
The latest addition to the Espresso Academy Family has been a company called One House Solutions from Kathmandu who are already running a school of their own and have decided to upgrade their courses and give them a more international value.
Long story short, we just spent 9 amazing days in Nepal with our new partners, learning from each other and preparing the school and the future trainers to follow our certification system.
We started by going through the entire course with the new trainers, they were actually already very well prepared so this was easy, afterwards they took the full barista exams and we also did some exam simulations to let them practice as trainers.
Our program is divided in two parts: the basic level is called Banconista Level and it covers all the general knowledge a future barista should have, from coffee production, processing and roasting to espresso preparation and some classic italian recipes.
The second level is the Barista Level, to pass this exam the student must have a lot more experience, they need to be much more prepared on the production chain of coffee and the actual work of the barista, they need to be able to evaluate their personal espresso recipe and as a final test they will need to demonstrate a certain speed and ability to work behind the counter by passing the Barista Trial which will be timed and published on the Espresso Academy website.
As a side project, during our stay we’ve also done some experiments in the roasting lab of Red Cherry Coffee Roastery, it was very interesting to compare different methods and styles of roasting from different countries and to taste local Nepali coffee at different roast levels.
We hope our insights have been very useful for the company and we’re excited to keep working with them in the future.
Now we’re back in italy and it’s just a matter of time before our friends in Nepal are ready to start their new Italian Barista Method courses, we are glad we’ve started this project and we’re expecting a very lengthy relationship with our new partners, they are doing a great job so if you are in that area make sure to check them out!
