Technician course program:
FIRST DAY
On the first day of the Espresso Machine Maintenance Technical Course, the development of the different technologies of espresso machines and their hydraulic and mechanical functioning is dealt with. The espresso extraction and measurement parameters are introduced for setting the newly installed machine and the cleaning and routine maintenance of the various equipment in the bars is dealt with.

- Relationship between pressure and flow during extraction
- Double Boiler and Multiple Boiler Machines
- Installing the espresso machine

- Setting the coffee grinder for a standard espresso extraction
- Check and change of the main seals and showers
- Types of steam wands and their operation and maintenance
- Cleaning the espresso machine, the coffee grinder and other equipment
SECOND DAY
On the second day we enter into more technical topics starting with some electronic basics to understand the practical consequences of Ohm's law and Power and Consumption measurements, paying close attention to safety at work and making measurements on machine components through the multimeter to find a possible malfunction.
The importance of the characteristics and the filtration of water for the correct operation of the machine and the ideal extraction of the coffee is then explained.
At this point the different types of coffee grinders will be explained such as instant on-demand ones or coffee grinders, but also the different shapes of grinders from conical to flat to rollers up to stone coffee grinders.

Over the two days, many practical exercises will be done on bar equipment during which unscheduled topics will also be discussed and explored according to the needs of students
THIRD DAY
The third day is optional and it's designed to go more in depth with some topics, to give participants more time to do practical exercises and to give them more confidence for approaching the profession of espresso machine technicians.
Some of the topics we cover are the following:
- New technologies and systems used in coffee grinders and espresso machines: from induction to no retention
- Overview of fully automatic machines like vending and pods.
- Client management, from the call to the service
- Spare parts, distributors and recommended stock
- Troubleshooting exercises: where is the problem and how do I fix it quickly
- Machine restoration protocols and extraordinary maintenance
SCA Water and preventive maintenance exam
At the end of this course it is possible to take part in the SCA Water and preventive maintenance certification.
